The Revolution series races into season five with event 17 getting off to a successful start last weekend. Revolution began in 2003 and has since grown to become a premier event on the track calendar, attracting some of the biggest names in the sport.
Last weekend was no exception, with T-Mobile’s unstoppable Mark Cavendish heading the programme. Cavendish got the evening off to a fast start, winning the opening motor-paced Scratch race, and followed up this win with another in the 1km Madison Time Trial with Ed Clancy.
Another familiar name, Magnus Backstedt, showed good form in the 15km Scratch race, blowing the race apart in a four man breakaway that included David O’Loughlin, Mike Friedman and eventual winner Chris Newton.
For this round of Revolution, three elite women races were added and the crowd were rewarded with a display of tight and tactical racing. Lizzie Armistead, Becky James and Alex Greenfield all recorded wins throughout the evening.
We reported on the new Future Revolution event last week, a spin-off from the Future Stars races in the Revolution series, which saw its inclusion in the main series once again. Dan McLay from the East Midlands team and Katie Fearnehough from Yorkshire both recorded 88 points through the evenings races and will head to Revolution 18 hoping to hold their leads for the DHL Future Stars championship title.
All attention now focuses on the next Revolution on November 17th. Only a few days before the start of the Gent six day Revolution 18 will see British star Bradley Wiggins taking on a host of six day stars providing a hard hitting taster for the action ahead.
