Strengths: I commute daily at around 6am so this winter it has been consistently cold.In the right temperature range this is superb. The "gill" pockets on the body allow you to ventilate effectively whilst a the same time you feel that the weather could throw anything at you and you feel safe and warm. Even in temperatures down to -4 I only needed the normal powerstatic base layer rather than the plus version.
Weaknesses: It ain't cheap but if you get a kick out of cycling in the coldest conditions this is the jacket for you
Overall: I hesitated before spending that amount but it will last for years and makes riding in the cold a pleasure.
Strengths: Fit is amazing - feels and looks wrong when standing up but as soon as you assume the position the jacket slips into place contouring the body perfectly. As warm as you could want, it has an integrated fleece chest warmer that zips all the way up to the chin if you need, and even has an attached fleece hood for really cold weather - truly an all in one jacket that saves the need for layering. I have worn it down to freezing without a base layer and have been toasty. I have also been pleasantly surprised by the durability of the Airblock material - I came off my bike going round a corner a week ago, hit the road hard, broke a bone on my forearm... but the jacket was intact. A ripped jacket would have been much more painful than the broken bone - at least the bone will mend itself!
Weaknesses: Possibly the fact that you will have the piss taken out of you by people saying you look like you've just walked off the set of the latest Star Trek film, but I really like the futuristic look. I would list the price here but having used the jacket for a couple of weeks I can say that it feels like a bargain. A general note about colour: I have been told by other Assos wearers that it's best to avoid the yellow and white options in the jackets as they end up looking
Overall: Tina Turner once sang 'Simply the best'. Without bothering to dress up like a leathery old hooker, I would have to echo her words. As with most Assos products the attention to detail is vast, the performance is exceptional, and the constuction is great. Understandably you will be put off by the price (I was for a while but eventually took a deep breath and went for it) but it really is worth every penny.
