Strengths: Dry, warm and with all that 3M Scotchlite car drivers have no excuse.
Weaknesses: The only problem I've had was the zip on the chest pocket has the same puller as the main zip. I once got the two mixed up and unzipped the chest pocket..... thankfully I didn't loose my phone/mp3 player/winning lottery ticket - but I've now removed the tassle so I have to TRY and open the pocket now.. ;-)
Strengths: Completely weatherproof, lots of zips and vents to help control temperature.
Weaknesses: In spite of the zips and vents it's still too hot to wear in all but the foulest/coldest weather and it doesn't pack up very small.
Overall: Cracking bit of kit for the high moors and the middle of winter - probably overkill for most UK riding conditions. Comes up about a size bigger than you'd expect.
Strengths: Keeps me completely dry in awful waether. Highly visible for those dusky rides home from work. Lots of zips. Price when compared to GoreTex. It has a RaceFace label on it.
Weaknesses: Not the most breathable fabric around. Possibly too many zips or I just get confused easily. The velcro on the storm flap is coming of after only 2-3 months of use. The zip is getting harder to engage and zip up as it's starting to become frayed at the bottom.
Overall: Nice looking jacket that keeps you save, dry and perhaps too warm.
To be honest I'm a bit cheesed off about the zip and velcro. Even though they are niggly things they can only get worse. With RaceFaces hardcore image I'd expect a more reliable product.
Would I buy it again? Probably although I may look at some of the alternatives in more detail.
Strengths: Impregnable by water, very visable -lights up like a landing strip. Very tough fabric, great warrenty backup. Fast drying, easy to wash, looks cool, plenty of stowage space.
Weaknesses: About as breathable as an asthmatic on 40 a day! Quite heavy and bulky - you'll need a big Camel to carry it. When washed a few times there is a very tiny amount of shrinkage, causing the pit zips to become misalaigned. This stops them working.
Overall: A fantastic winter jacket. After 8 months of use and abuse my 2002 Aquanot broke. The pit zip was dead. A week later and free of charge I was the proud owner of a new 2003 Aquanot. Great service. If you want to stay warm and dry in the worst that British weather has to throw at you this winter, then you could do a lot worse than investing in an Aquanot.
Strengths: Keeps the water out Pretty strong HUGE pit zips Plenty of pockets Nice lined collar Good big tags on the zips Looks great
Weaknesses: Not the most breathable Packsize is fairly large Can get very warm if its not too cold
Overall: My first jacket but seems a very good buy. Does what i wanted it to do and some.. i can wear it when im going to the shops or just for another layer to go somewhere like college. The reflective strips are very good too. Top Buy
Strengths: Tough shell, dry, warm-warm-warm, good size pockets, high warm soft-lined collar, generous arm length. Styling is sufficiently casual to not look like a pillock wearing it off the bike.
Weaknesses: Not that breathable, can get a bit too warm in milder Brit winters especially if you're well layered (but hey - it's designed for proper Canadian winters...).
Overall: As good as winter jackets get, and in my view better than the thinner jacket that has now replaced it. Wear one less layer than you think you'll need and hope that the rest of your winter kit can keep up.
