RCUK Bikes Mark Reid's Condor Baracchi

Mark Reid has spent six months assembling a highly distinctive Condor

I thought I would share with you my bike, which has taken approximately 6 months to complete.

The frame is a Condor Baracchi, which has been resprayed by Condor from its original blue/orange to matt black. Chainset is a Truvativ Rouleur triple, with Shimano Ultegra front and rear mechs, Dura Ace brakes and bar end shifters and Dura Ace wheels. As you can see in one of the pics, the saddle is a piece of carbon with 3 bits of foam stuck on it, and it is surprisingly very comfortable.

What I think is unique about my bike, is that apart from the chain, bar end tape and brake cables, every thing has been purchased off eBay, some of it 2nd hand (frame, wheels, brakes) and some bits have come from eBay shops in America, as the good exchange rate has helped (the Truvativ Rouleur carbon triple cost me approx £100 with postage).

Just shows that if you have the patience, you can get a bike that is unique for you, alot cheaper than normal.

  • Frame: Condor Barracchi
  • Fork: Dedacciai Black blades
  • Cranks: Truvativ Rouleur Carbon Triple GXP
  • Cassette: Shimano Ultegra
  • Front and Rear Mech: Shimano Ultegra
  • Brakes: Shimano Dura Ace
  • Wheels: Shimano Dura Ace
  • Bars: Profile Alumin X
  • Stem: Deda Kol
  • Shifters: Shimano Dura Ace Bar End Shifters
  • Saddle: Carbon with 3 bits of foam (same as the monbloc saddle)
  • Seatpost: Deda Supercarbon

This pic is poor, hardly worth publishing.
    Posted: 07/03/2007 14:15

It was quite obvious without your helpful and, frankly, totally useless comment.

    where's your bike?
    Posted: 07/03/2007 20:47

Just goes to show that those who make the effort (whatever your opinion of the result) will be the ones riding away in their free jersey.

    Those that don't, won't!

Thanks to those for their comments, well except for martin, i did send 5 pics in, and looks like only 2 got published, and some of the others are clearer.

you don't have to explain. The pic is fine. The write-up is good. The bike is something you are rightly proud of.
Martin's just being pedantic. I bet he wears beige.

Send the other pics again, Reidy, and we'll add them. These are the only ones that arrived.

Hi Mark, interesting article. What size is the frame? I am interested as it looks very large in the picture, and as a tall rider myself (6'5"), I ride a Condor Pista of 61cm frame. I'd love a Condor road bike as and when funds allow and understand from them that they were considering adding a 64cm size to the standard range.

    Thanks
    Posted: 22/03/2007 13:08

The frame size is a 61cm, and was lucky to get it, as was just scanning through ebay, and it caught my eye.
    Posted: 22/03/2007 13:33

A very lucky find indeed. There aren't that many of us tall cyclinsts around and we don't tend to sell on our bikes that often. If you get bored with your Barrachi you now know of someone of a suitable size who'd like it!
    Posted: 22/03/2007 13:37

Neil, think i would have certain body parts chopped off, if i sold it, as have spent many an hour, checking out prices and reviews, when i could have been doing other things.

There you are, you complain about the quality of the material published and the editor takes the trouble to improve it. That's how it's supposed to work. So yah boo sucks to Tom.

I sent some nice pics of mine, not on, is it in a back log, or am I not liked?

    Who modified the pic?
    Posted: 23/03/2007 12:51

It's a bit of a Heinz bike that one.
    Posted: 23/03/2007 13:00

It's ok Adam I think I'm not liked either. Sent my pictures in on the 2nd March. Mr Hallett did advise me there was a backlog and my bike would be on soon. 3 weeks on and still waiting though - I'm going to develop a complex soon. I'm not digging Richard - we know your a busy man.

Martin - don't you have some plants to go and water or something. I'm with Tom -definitely part of the beige brigade. Maybe try and be constructive next time you post rather than rubbish someones picture. A more subtle approach may get you a better response.
    Posted: 23/03/2007 13:37

It was a crap picture though Nathan.
    Posted: 23/03/2007 13:49

Yes Mike I agree it wasn't the greatest picture but there is a way of getting you point across without taking the pi$$ out of someone. This only discourages them from coming onto the forum and sharing their views. All Martin had to say was - could we have another couple of photo's please. Not very hard really.
    Posted: 23/03/2007 14:07

I partly blame the person who put it on the site, if there's a backlog of bikes to be posted then why pick one with such poor photos? In these days of the digital camera there's no excuse for a picture like that to make it from the camera to the PC. Emailing it for publication is even worse.
    Posted: 23/03/2007 14:17

    who modified the pic?

" 'twas I" said the fly.
    Posted: 23/03/2007 14:50

That's very true Mike and as said previously I'm not disputing the quality of the picture Mike.
    Posted: 23/03/2007 14:54

What's a Heinz bike Mike? Is it to do with 'beans'? Or perhaps 'tin cans'?
    Posted: 23/03/2007 15:24

Heinz 57 different varieties. You know, some bikes just look right and some don't.
    Posted: 23/03/2007 15:30

Or a 'Jacob's coat' as some may say?
    Posted: 23/03/2007 15:35

    or 'dogs dinner'.
    Posted: 23/03/2007 15:41

...but that would be seen as impertinent.
    Posted: 24/03/2007 19:49

    or honest.
    Posted: 24/03/2007 21:05

Let's just agree that the pic was poor. I had nothing to say on the bike. But the editor should be aware that the picture content was not of a suitable standard, and that is why I posted my first remark.
