32-year-old Chris Hoy, who won three Olympic gold medals in Beijing, was last night named 2008 BBC Sports Personality of the Year.
Hoy beat both Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton and two time swimming Olympic gold medal winner Rebecca Adlington.
"I really didn't expect this. After the year I've had and the whole team has had, to be crowned Sports Personality of the Year, it just means so much. This is the big one and this is just unbelievable," said a clearly shocked but delighted Hoy.
Hoy becomes only the second cyclist to win the award in its history, Tom Simpson receiving the gong in 1965.
