At the heart of Thorn's Audax is a totally handbuilt Reynolds 853 Conical tubed frame, it's a low-temperature fillet brazed and finished in thick stove enamelled paint. Sealed frame tubes to prevent internal rust. A Reynolds 531 fork, which is thoughtfully contemporary with a threadless 1 1/8" steerer. The compact style frame saves a little weight and produces a slightly stiffer frame with increased standover clearance. Choose from a short or long top tube to suit your riding preference. Custom builds and component upgrades are available too - any Thorn bike is personally built for you.
And as the Thorn website proclaims, it's a faster than average Audax bike: "We have also taken the opportunity to slightly modify the front geometry in favour of a sportier ride... the Audax 853 is still very stable, it still has clearance between shoes and mudguard but now it steers more quickly (compared to the original, ultra-stable Audax Classic)"
