Magnus Backstedt's hour

cycling.tv
Backstedt looks forward to an hour of hell...

Magnus Backstedt, former winner of the Paris Roubaix and one of the biggest and most powerful road riders around has confirmed that he will be coming back to Revolution to once more ride the UK's number 1 track event on October 15th 2005 at Manchester Velodrome.

Magnus is no stranger to the track although he is more famous for his exploits on the road. He regularly trains at Newport Velodrome which is close to his home in Wales. He will be using Revolution to get the feeling for being on the track back before he takes on the Challenge of the Derney paced hour record on the 29th October. (See details below)

Magnus will be joined by fellow road riders Chris Newton, Rob Hayles and Paul Manning who will all be taking part in a host of endurance events on the night including a Elimination Scratch Race a Points race and the always popular 1km Madison Time Trial.

Derny Paced Hour Record tickets now available
Tickets are now available for Magnus Backstedts attempt to set a new world best performance in an hour behind a derny presented by Liquigas. The event will take place at the Newport Velodrome in South Wales on Saturday 29th October. Having finished the Tour of Spain in great shape, Magnus is confident in his ability to beat the 66.114km mark currently held by Dutchman Mathe Pronk.

Backstedt said "After being pulled from the Tour de France with bronchitis I went into the Vuelta with survival in mind, with the heat and the hills it was brutal, but I came out of it in good shape. I needed to finish a grand tour this year with my aim of the derny record and winning Paris Roubaix for a second time in 2006 in mind"

Magnus will be joined on the night by some of the worlds top sprinters as well as some of his good friends from the pro peloton, some of whom will be on the track for the first time!

After spending the week meeting his American fans at the Interbike show in Las Vegas, the Liquigas Bianchi professional will ride his final race of the season, Paris-Tours on Sunday before getting on the track in earnest to train for his big night.

• Tickets are £10 each and are available online at: TrackCycling.co.uk
• Or from Welsh Cycling Union offices at Newport Velodrome (9am and 4pm) in person only
• Or call Sprocket Promotions on 01252 815506
