Focus Izalco Team

Focus Izalco Team

German brand Focus has built a big reputation for offering impressive value at the lower and middle end of the price scale, but we're keen to find out if the Wiggle-imported bikes can cut it at the higher end. Right on cue, the Izalco Team has just rolled out of its impossibly large box and into the RCUK office.

The Izalco range sits above the Cayo range and uses a slightly different ISPS high-modulus unidirectional carbon frame with matching fork. The intention is that these frames offer a much lower weight and a higher level of stiffness for more demanding riders. And they are light, with a 58cm size having a claimed weight of 840g (1.85lb). This makes a featherlight full-build easily attainable, with the complete bike just 6.4kg (14.1lbs).

And as we've come to expect from Focus, you get all this performance at an impressive price. The Team is specced with a full SRAM RED groupset, Fulcrum Racing 1 wheels, Schwable Evo tyres and FSA's quite excellent finishing kit, and costs £2,699.99.

Incidentally this is the same bike used by top Brit triathlete Stuart Hayes for training. Full RCUK review soon…

No doubt an excellent price for a bike loaded with top components but something holds me back from parting with my hard earned cash. Not sure whether its the limited 3 year frame warranty, the desire to purchase from a local bike shop or the rather drap German name (I'm not a city banker).

Ive seen the bike at an exhibition and can honestly say the bike looks a lot better in the flesh. I'm looking for a bike in this prce range that is a racing beast. Ive swayed between a Specialized SL2 frameset (built up with dura ace), a de Rosa idol.
