Ride Scotland with Sustrans

Booking is now open for Sustrans' mass summer bike ride, which this year is uncovering the beauty of Scotland's lochs, glens, forests and mountains with a 200-mile trip from Glasgow to Edinburgh.

The five-day adventure will set off from Glasgow on 9 June, guiding cyclists in a northerly loop to arrive in the capital city of Edinburgh on 13 June.

Riders will cover around 40 miles a day, exploring some of the most breathtaking scenery in Scotland and discovering just how much it has to offer two-wheeled travellers.

Clyde-Tae-Forth will showcase two of the Scottish schemes included in Sustrans' Connect2 project, which won the Big Lottery Fund's The People's £50 Million contest in December 2007.

There are 79 community-led schemes included in the Connect2 projects, each designed to help make the local environment easier and more attractive to travel around on foot or by bike.

John Lauder, Sustrans National Director for Scotland, is keen for people to join in with the ride and see Scotland in a different light, saying: "The Clyde-Tae-Forth ride is a fun way for people to explore the landscape, heritage and culture of this region of Scotland - with stunning views from the saddle guaranteed."

"Taking to two wheels to explore our stunning landscape is one of the best ways to discover the heather-clad hills, sparkling lochs and country towns and villages in a healthy and environmentally-friendly way."

Only 100 spaces for the full five-day ride are available, and riders are urged to register early. Each overnight stop is £30, which includes ride organisation, maps, camping accommodation, a light breakfast, luggage transfer and a special edition ride t-shirt. Those not wanting to take part in the full ride are welcome to join in for day rides - the cost is £10 for a guided ride, map and special edition ride t-shirt.

Booking for Sustrans' Clyde-Tae-Forth ride closes on 28 May. Anyone interested in booking a place on the full ride, or joining in for a day section, should contact Sustrans' Events Team on 0117 915 0125, email events@sustrans.org.uk or visit www.sustrans.org.uk
