Clothing for riding Fixed Wheel

London-based Rapha have a keen eye on the diverse fashions of city cyclists, and it's those hard working messengers with their unique approach to cycling style who have inspired the Kentish Town firm's 'Fixed' cycle clothing range, which gains a few additions for 2008.

Launched a couple of years ago, the Fixed range blends functional design, modern fabrics and a hint of that all-important messenger style to provide a comfortable alternative to Lycra or ripped-up denim trousers.

As the Rapha website says,“The Rapha FIXED. range is inspired by the demands of riding in town and the style and practicality of fixed wheel bikes. Each garment is designed for commuting in all weathers, but also with enough style to be worn in the office.”

During a recent visit to the Rapha offices, we got a look at the full Fixed range.

Fixed Clothing

1. Rapha Fixed T

Now available in three new colours (Mineral Grey/Navy, Navy/Sulphur and Sulphur/Black), the Fixed T uses the same material as the Fixed Shirt but in a more causal t-shirt style, with a handy rear-mounted pocket. £40.

2. Fixed Shorts

These ¾ length baggy shorts are made from a fabric called Schoeller Nanosphere, it's a little bit stretchy and to keep you cool it's breathable too. A benefit of the material is the fact it's naturally self-cleaning and stain-proof. £105. Read the review

3. Fixed Trousers [New]

For times when it's too cold for the Fixed shorts Rapha's new Fixed Trousers are welcome addition to the Fixed family. Made from the same lightweight and stretchy micro-twill fabric, and weather-proof due to a 3X Dry finish, they're perfect for riding to work or popping over your Lycra for a meeting.

4. Fixed Shirt [New]

The Fixed Tee was a popular addition to the range when launched last year, but if you prefer something smarter then there's now the new Fixed Shirt. To ensure its credentials for cycling use, it's made from Dri-Release woven fabric which should be fast drying and odour resistant. A slim fit is accompanied by a dropped tail, covered buttons on the front and a rear mounted pocket.

5. Rapha Fixed Jersey

Made from Merino wool, the Fixed Jersey is ideal for everyday riding, whether that's riding to work, down to the shops, running errands across town or hanging out in a bar. £85. Read the review

6. Musette [New]

Not strictly a Fixed item of clothing this, but one that would look good slung over the shoulder of a city cyclist between meetings and café stops.

Not pictured are the Fixed Track Top, Fixed T long sleeve and Fixed Rucksack.

Delivery dates and prices for these new products are to be announced soon. In the meantime head over to www.rapha.cc for more.
