Solo Merino Wool Arm and Kneewarmers

Solo Merino Wool Arm (£22) and Kneewarmers (£26)

New Zealand-based Solo's arm and kneewarmers are made from the same Mapp Matrix fabric found in the previously reviewed Equipe jersey reviewed here.

For such simple items of clothing, warmers can be incredibly over-designed. Not so with Solo's offerings. Simplicity results in a pair of fantastically well-fitting and comfortable arm and kneewarmers formed from just one piece of material with the seam running down the back. The kneewarmers are cut long, allowing you to alter how much of the lower leg is covered, with the logo'ed gripper tape holding both ends securely in place.

In use these items are fabulous. They're thicker than most other arm and kneewarmers, so you'll rarely feel the cold; chances are you'll be seeking extra layers before you reach the limits of these. Solo may have their spiritual roots tied to yesteryear's fibres, but there's nothing old-fashioned with these warmers.

Finishing touches extend to a reflective logo and piping on the armwarmers, with the knees just getting a small logo - it would be nice to see a bit of reflective material around the back of the kneewarmers.

Verdict

Solo might be trading on the appeal of classic styling, but there's nothing out-of-date about these arm and kneewarmers. A sensible fit, thick material for warmth, and subtle styling. Just the job.

good Great fit, material feels superb next to skin

bad Hand-wash only (though I've put mine through a 30degree machine wash with no adverse effects, yet…)
