FIRST LOOK: Colnago 2007

Basically it's business as usual at Colnago.

The only 'new' frame is the CLX which is a new mid-range carbon frame designed at the 'ColnagoLab' in Italy and made in Taiwan to keep costs down. Looks pretty well finished too, although some of the paint schemes are a little distracting. The other Colnago designed, Taiwanese made complete bikes (Arte and Primavera) have improved specifications and will be more competitively priced in 2007.

The new C50 upgrade is a sprinter's version of the polka dot jersey winning climbing frame, the Extreme C. Colnago has always said that you can go 'to light' on a bike (we couldn't agree more) and the result is a compromise in handling and safety. His geometry philosophy is always relaxed and stable too, with the intention of allowing the rider to have control of the bike over all types of road surface and gradients.

The Extreme Power frame was designed specifically with Petacchi and Zabel in mind it has a similar appearance to the Extreme C but has reinforcing built into the tubes and is designed to cope with burly team sprinters - apparently they are suitably happy with it too - and there was me thinking a C50 was stiff enough...

Elsewhere the Italian-built steel Master has been lightenend up a little by now being TIG welded rather than lugged and there are now more colour options and custom variations accross the ranges.

The CLX - immaculate finish

Looks tasty built up too

The Arte with improved specs

The Extreme-C with full Record - very light

The Dream HX

The Primavera

They would be nice bikes, if the paintjobs were so terribly bad. What are they thinking!
