FIRST LOOK: Cannondale 2007

We've just been sent some information about new bikes and range changes for 2007. The company recently celebrated their 35th birthday a while too.

Synapse Carbon SL

The Synapse range is aimed at the performance rider, those who do plenty of miles but may not be too bothered with racing, in the mold we've seen from Specialized with their Roubaix and the Pilot from Trek.

The new for 2007 SL range will be available in five builds, from 105 equipped at £1,599 to the £3,449 DuraAce model sitting at the top of the range. Compact or Triple flavours are available. Expect them in the shops this September.

System Six

We got the chance to have a close look at a new System Six recently. One of the big changes for next year is the addition of two Sram specced bikes.

The System Six is Cannondale's carbon race bike, and everything is designed for speed and stiffness. The front end is chunky to say the least, with a 1.5" lower bearing diameter. An exceedingly fat downtube and bottom bracket junction look reasuring, while the rear aluminium stays are aero shaped for stiffness and a little compliance.

Caad 9

The Caad range came to life 23 years ago. Back then it was Cannondales top flight race steed, the first choice of wannabe-winners and pros alike. The aluminium frame has been constantly tweaked in that time, and the Caad 9 is the latest in a long line of revisions.

The top tube is butted and scupltured and the seat tube has been another area receiving attention - it sure looks pretty and the changes save 15 grams on last years model. Even more impressive, Cannodale claim the Caad9 is 21% stiffer than the Caad8.

Two models with Ultegra or 105 will be available.

CAAD9 Optimo SI Cyclocross

This is a brand new bike. It takes the dna from the Caad9 frame but offers ample mud clearance. The rear stays are of the wishbone variety, the top tubes hyrdroformed and an oversized and double butted seat tube.
