Italian based DMT are a relatively unknown brand in the UK, though plenty of the world's top riders can be seen sporting them, like the unfeasibly fast Alessandro Petacchi. Launched in 1996, the company, based in Verona, have been making some fine shoes, constantly innovating and pushing new technologies.
In 2001 the Ultimax shoes was the first to feature a single-piece integrated heel cup. Now though the new range topper Flash is lighter and stiffer than any shoe DMT have previously released.
Picking them out of the box, you can't help but notice how light they are, just 270g each (540g/pair) - in comparison they're a tad heavier than the Specialized S-Works shoes (240g) but lighter a pair of Sidi Genius's (276g) - so they're certainly on a par with the competition.
They're also very slim as the upper is one-piece, this wraps around the entire shoe and is seamless. It's a micro-fibre material, amazingly there's just one seam running along the centre bottom of the shoe. Instead of the usual mesh on other shoes the DMT has a couple of rows of holes cut along the sides.
A 'Supra Light Hardened Carbon' sole is a low-profile to keep the foot closer to the pedals. There's drillings for all cleat types. Back on top, the foot is held inside the shoe by two Velcro straps and once ratchet strap. The ratchet strap is actually mounted to a piece of material which wraps around the entire heel, designed to keep the heel of your foot snug into the shoe.
