Marks out of ten are all well and good. With bikes it's often a personal thing and the modern road bike is a far better package than it was ten years ago, so really low marks are pretty rare.
However there are a few products and bikes that stand alone and (roll of drums, trumpet fanfares, etc) these will receive a special gold, well mainly red, star of approval. This basically means that it's suff that we'd happily use ourselves and therefore we'd want to recommend it to our readers.
It goes to the product with the right combination of performance, quality and value.
