Shimano Dura-Ace pedals

Winged pedals for top-flight groupset

Shimano Dura-Ace pedals

Shimano’s redesigned SPD-SL pedal, with its ‘winged’ shape, has spread throughout the range to the budget 105 and here, Dura-Ace (7810) level.

Using the same wide design, which provides a large shoe contact area giving better support to the shoe and offering a lower profile for even more cornering clearance, the lightweight forged body keeps the weight low. On the scales they come in at 281g.

Three sets of bearings keep them spinning freely and experience with the previous Dura-Ace pedals should attest to their longevity.

What are Shimano on!?

281 grms for top of the range pedals!

Wakey, wakey Japan, because things have moved on!

I am Campagnolo only, but even they can't make the best pedals!

That is why on my dream carbon Bianchi bike,i put Look HM Titanium pedals

with Long Weave carbon. They are 95 grms per pedal, and the best-looking!

They compliment the Campagnolo "Record" perfectly!

They may be £250.00 retail(they are top of the range pedals, remember!),but i bought a hardly used pair on eBay for £108.00!!!

I guess it depends what value you put on 100g extra weight, (and appearance).

If the pedals are smooth, long lasting, comfortable, reliable and nice to use then perhaps dolk will be happy on Shimano.

You could always get your mercury fillings converted to ceramic and shave the weight that way.

I reckon I sweat more than 200g on a ride.

Stop being a weight-weenie obsessive... the Shimano pedals are excellent.

I'm still waiting for hydration tables weighing only 5g each, so I don't have to carry bidons everywhere.

Right, Look carbon ones are double the price, cleats wear twice as fast, pedal bodies wear twice as fast and the bearings wear twice as fast.  Shimano are much more secure too.

Now I don't have a don't have an economics degree, but I know which pedal's I'd go for!  Japanese engineering any day.

Hang on M@ I thought you were a Keo man?

I can't stand the feel of the float on SPD SL, so they are a no for me. However, on an engineering level they are great...well they are since they got shot of the plastic pedal tops!

m@
Yeah, I've been on Keo's twice and both times swapped back to SPD-SL as Keo's are shite!

I wonder had they known about Mavic's new pedal range? Launched at Eurobike and looking really nice (light too).

No announcements as of yet as to whether they can deal with 200 grams of sweat pouring down and going into the bearings.

Pedals are all about personal choice but I hardly think that Shimano bosses should be lining up to commit suicide because their pedals wigh in at a staggering 281 grms, I mean the bike might just still be able to move with them on. For whats it worth I like Keo's nver tried the shimano but I bet they would be good but I would not be running to the full carbon £200 jobs , firstly because I can't afford them and secondly they seen like overkill unless you are sponsered.
