There’s more than a few well known perks to being a pro cyclist, and customised bikes and clothing have always been some of them. Liquigas’s Fillipe Pozzato though has just received a brand new pair of customised Sidi shoes in time for the Milan-Sanremo classic this weekend.

Based on standard Ergo 2 Carbon shoes but with a special one-off floral decoration - a reference to the flowers which have made Sanremo and the Ligurian coast famous all over the world. I doubt anyone will find time to point and laugh at his shoes in the final sprint however, expect him to be fighting for the win.

Commenting upon receiving his new shoes, Pozzato said: “Thanks for the flowers. This new shoe was a very nice welcome surprise. I hope this gift will bring me luck on my Sanremo ride.”

yes, i could think of loads of better things to decorate my shoes in than flowers. but each to their own

I am after a pair of these shoes, but the limited edition "Paolo Bettini" gold ones, which cost £300!!!

I bought a pair of DMT Mag Force,in yellow last year,as worn by Pettachi, and people were staring at them all day, while i was walking around at finish of Taunton stage of "Tour Of Britain"At least the Italians have style, unlike the Japanese with their ugly designs!!!

In what sense do you think they are gay? Are you making assumptions about gay people liking flowers, or are you using the word in the modern sense of meaning rubbish or lame, which is intrinsically homophobic?

No reponse. It's nice when people stick by what they've written.

are there any gay pro cyclists?

There's Judith Arndt, former women's road world champion. I believe that her partner is also a pro cyclist. I'm not aware of any gay male pros, but that means they aren't out rather than they don't exist, which is a great shame.

that suprises me i can see macho sports like rugby being homophobic but cycling isn't exaclty the omst tesosterone fuelled activity
Posted: 31/03/2008 21:44

Well, it was certainly testosterone fuelled for Floyd Landis....
Posted: 31/03/2008 22:20

hahaha i think his mennonite upbringing might be somewhat homophobic as well
