Ibera RideBot multi tool/bike stand

No need to find somewhere to lean your bike

Ibera RideBot in action

Due to be unveiled at the the Taipei International Cycle Show, which runs from March 17th to 20th, Ibera's RideBot looks at first glance like any other large multi-tool. However, there's more to it than most, for a simple twist of the wrist transforms it into a bike stand.

Anyone who has looked in vain for a lamppost or a fence against which to lean their bike will bemoan the fact that quality bikes don't generally come with stands.

Short of attaching a clunky kickstand to the chainstays or lugging a stand around in your backpack, RideBot is the solution to the bicycle in need of a stand. The RideBot, without extra weight or bulk, turns into a portable bike stand in seconds. It is placed under one pedal and acts like a block to support the bicycle.

In addition to functioning as a portable bike stand, the RideBot is a fully-loaded 11-function multi-tool weighing a scant 185g and incorporating two detachable tyre levers, seven Allen keys (8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2.5 and 2 mm), flat-head and Phillips screwdrivers and a Torx T25 driver.

There is, of course, a small difficulty; what happens when you wish to support the cycle while working on it?

Neat, but not very stable!

When I saw this, it occurred to me that most of the time you're bike needs to be propped up, you also need tools?  Umm...

Surely the idea is for it to be used on the road and not the workshop?  The most common use would be for puncture repairs in which case the bike is usually upside down on its bars & saddle; most other running adjustments can be performed by supporting the bike yourself and using the tool one handed.

The additional functionality of a stand is a neat idea for cafe stops etc although it won't stop some toe rag nicking your shiny new tool and leaving your bike on its side.

The only use I could see for it would be for photo opportunities of your pride and joy

This is surely the most stupid idea I've ever seen.

1) There are numerous kerbs which do this for nothing, don't move and don't need to be carried around.

2) Trees, cars, gates, hedges... Unless you life in a desert you're never more than 5 metres from something that works better than this.

3) The stand is too small to be stable, so let's hope you use flat pedals and there's no wind or anything else to knock over your ride

4) Points above about using the stand and using the tool

I saw it at the Taipei Cycle Show. It is not a repair stand but a handy little device that is part of a normal sized toolset. It is surprisingly quite stable.
