Follwing up an article in cycling plus magazine, i found an entry level road bike completely specced with shimano ultegra for £809.Wondered if anybody had any experience or info regarding this brand?????? Negative or positive.

Hey Dobelerone, I recently purchased the carbon road bike edition and it is fantastic! I would definately recommend the bikes...i have changed a few bits on mine but nothing major, stem seat, front mech. Also guy i work with purchased a MTB he absolutely loves it and my manager has just order the £500 road bike so they are getting more popular where i work lol.

I work for the firm in Germany ( Merida & Centurion Germany) and would say the product is great value. On the MTB front we´ve one of the best teams in the world riding the same product that joe public can buy and also a road team which race elite in southern Germany on the same stock frames. My eldst daughters racing on a carbon frame that was sent back to us with a supposed defect, customer had problems shifting on a Dura Ace triple, my girls been using it now for 2 years with no problems. On saying that I´ve had 2 frames from 04 come apart on me in races but the design has changed twice since then and we see very few warranty cases with the frames now.

One thing that not many know is that Merida make the bikes for Specialized (they are joint owners!) and look at the price you pay for them !

Am I right in thinking that they also made (make?) Carrera bikes for Halfords?

Your correct they did make the Carrera bikes.

thanks Daniel - do they still make them for Halfords?

Not to sure, I do remember coming home and popping into a Halfords to look at them but this must´ve been about 4 years ago.

Upset Doblerone now but lets not forget that the majority of bikes/frames are now sourced in Taiwan and there´s not that many firms building quality frames. Merida and Giant being the top 2 and Giant builds the cheaper frames for Colnago which ain´t no secret. The Merida Carbon frames are made for us by another firm.

To race on I´ll be using a Centurion Carbon frame for next season but rather ride my fantastic Robert´s framed bikes, thats were my heart beats.

halfords do still supply carrera, its now their "own" brand and they supply merida as well
