I replaced the BB about 4.5k ago. I'm sure they used to last longer, but I already getting the death click from it,no play but that will probably be within the next 500 miles. How long do moderns ones normally last, I sure olders one I have had 10k plus out of.

Or am I just an old git convinced everything used to be better back then

Sorry should have said Shimano UNxx Cant remember exactly the number. What Am I comparing it to nothing in particular, although I did have one Durace BB the old adjustable type that I reckon saw about 40k. The click has diaspeared so it I might get a few more miles out of it.

Those Shimano cartridge UNxx bottom bracket bearings have a variable lifespan, some going on for ages.  The newer two-piece Hollowtech II type can perish in a few thou kms. If you want real longevity from a square taper BB axle, buy Royce. It will repay the investment.
