Just finished my daily commute and today it was hammering down for the whole duration of the ride. Ive just purchased a Berghaus bike specific waterproof made from GoreTex Paclite that cost me £149.
When i took the jacket off at my destination I was as wet as would have been with no jacket on at all. The inside of the jacket was soaked in what I presume was sweat!! Before this jacket I had A Gill that was just as bad.

Now is it just that I am a sweaty person or do we all suffer from this same problem?

Unfortunately brethable fabrics need a temperature and humidity gradient to work. I.E. it needs to be warmer and more humid on the inside than the outside. So breathable fabrics are less breathable in warm humid conditions and they attain ideal breathability in cold dry conditions.

I suppose that means when its warm and raining you just get wet whatever the weather. Frustrating but I suppose we'll just have to put up with it,
Thanks for the info Ed,

Well, If you run hot then this may not be the option (and definately not in summer) but for autumn/winter/spring paramo garments work fantastically as they do not have a membrane system but instead wick water away from your skin and repel water from the outside.

They make lightish (still 700g) garments such as the viento smock and a lightweight jacket as well that I use for cycling in cooler environments.

Some people love them, some hate them. Might be worth a try.

A year and a bit ago I bought a Lusso HT50 (I think) waterproof jacket. It was waterproof but I experienced the same problems when it became hot, the "breathable" insert wasn't so.

In the end after owning and washing it regularly for a about a year it stank to high heaven, the dried sweat smell was getting unbearable, I remember hanging it in an open cupboard at my former work place and I could smell it about 30 feet away.

A couple of weeks ago it went in the only place for it - the bin.

Poor dustmen ;-)

I think the answer to your question is no.
