Anyone got any advice?

Thinking of trying some 3/4 length bibs for a while.

Or maybe just getting a new set to replace my old knackered ones.

Endura 3/4 bibs are warm, comfy and long wearing. I've had mine 3 years and apart from the transfer wearing off in the wash they're still in perfect nick.

However you'll want full length tights for when it's really cold. Buy a pair with a pad so you can wear shorts underneath. I've got a Giordana pair with Roubaix lycra lined on the front with windtex and they're nice and warm. The windtex also makes them quite water resistant.

Ooops that should have been:

Buy tights WITHOUT a pad

I got some Briko Gore winstopper ones last winter, excellent when really cold, too much above 5 degrees though. I otherwise use some roubaix bibs or some knee warmers if it is milder.

Thanks lads.

Interesting. So you wear your shorts underneath?

Even on the 3/4 lengths? Or do they come with pads? I like the idea of some 3/4s. Never tried them. I've got a couple of pairs of old knacked full lengths.

How much warmer are 3/4 than shorts. Can they extend you quite a way into winter riding in your experience.

My Brikos have a pad, but the windstopper is only on the front, so without shorts my thighs & bum tend to get quite cold.

My Endura 3/4's do have a pad but it's very thin and I feel it's more for appearance than function so I wear shorts underneath.

I probably wear 3/4's down to about 5 degrees C - if you were to try wearing shorts at that temperature you'd end up impotent for a month!

Well, sperm production is actually at its best if the testicles are 1-2 degrees lower than body temp, so the cold might increase fertility, while rendering the the rest of the equipment useless!!!!!!!

So that's why the wife keeps getting pregnant.

I can now justify a training camp to Majorca as a form of birth control - wonder if it's available on the NHS?

A brick & a bat might be cheaper!!!

A hot bath works just as well to temporarily disable the little buggers, as does tight undies, jeans etc.

Don't know about the tight undies and jeans - whenever the wife has them on going to sleep is the last thing on my mind

Parrott Gear is usually pretty good, I've had both longs and 3/4s from them and have taken 3 or 4 seasons of abuse with no real signs of significant wear!
Choice of colour is a la Model T Ford though!!!!!!!

I wasn't worried about birth control!

shorts over or under then??

Under this morning. Worked well as my shorts are dead comfy and my tights less so.

The tights are a bit scratchy actually. De Marchis.

- They do, of course, ascend towards the body in cold weather and descend (to keep cooler) in warm weather. Which means you could probably have your legs calibrated and use them as a thermometer.

To Alan, sorry this posy has descended into meanless drivel re sperm counts & testicles, while others try & stay focused.

Cyclops, re tigth undies & jeans, its when the man wears them, not the woman.......
