I already have a waterproof jacket but am lacking some trousers to match. Can anyone recommend some waterproof trousers that are tight enough not to catch on my chainrings but are not skintight, not really my style! I ride XC and would rather avoid overtrousers and have just the one pair instead. What's your suggestions?

I'm not too concerned with cost, I've a birthday coming up so will be a little flush for a while but I want to avoid overtrousers for the reason Lol Park says, the damp clammy feeling, hence looking at getting proper waterproof trousers rather than a overshell. Anybody got any other recommendations? Thanks so far.

Ron Hill do a water-resistant coating on their bikestaers DXBs although they are tights.
I think Altura do some good stuff - just check out one of the uk based bike webshops!
For years I used a pair of hiking overtrousers, cost me 20quid and kept me totally dry.

I agree with Craig - hiking overtrousers are a good cheap bet but if worn with only shorts below can get a bit clammy inside - feels like they're leaking but its just the sweat/condensation.

Paramo make waterproof trousers for hikers which don't appear too tight although i'm told they are fairly warm but very breathable. They are worn as trousers not overtrousers, downside - they're about £100!!!!!!!!!!!

What about "Freeride" type pants? RaceFace, Fox, Kona, Roach make good ones. Have a look on wiggle and Chain Reaction. Most are made from Cordura type nylon which will keep most of the water out.
Thats what I'll be getting when it gets nippy.

Yeah, i was going to suggest something like that - MX to freeride stlye stuff. Quite a few of those are waterproof to some degree and they look decent. Many of them aren't very breathable, though.

See there's my dilemma. Freeride pants would I agree look much cooler but I want to stay comfortable in them and am going to be racing this year so the big ponce that I am wants to stay dry but not boil myself. I'm probably looking for the impossible here. Anyone know anything about the Gill Exodus trousers or the Endura weatherpants?

I've got a pair of Endura weathrepants and I'm pretty chuffed with them. So far I've only ridden them in the dry/light showers but they're quite breathable and don't steam up too much. They also fit very well without being too tight or too DH and have reinforced panels on the inside of the ankle so you don't trash them on the chainrings.
Wiggle are selling them cheap at £59.99 at the moment but be aware that the sizes seem very large, I originally ordered a large for 32" waist and it was miles too big, now got a medium and it fits great.
Also seem to remember a favourable review of them on here somewhere.
