Crotch Guard Skin Care Oil £14.50/4fl oz UK mainland

Is there any real need to explain what the contents of a bottle of Crotch Guard do? Or, for that matter, how they do it? Alright, then; the product guards the crotch by helping prevent infection, chafing and other troubles likely to affect the cyclist’s nether regions, and it does so by combining an anti-bacterial agent with specially formulated non-greasy oils, originally developed to treat radiation burns, that complement the action of the natural lipids vital to healthy skin.

Guaranteed to be non-scented, non-allergenic and free of perfumes, dyes, alcohols or preservatives, the oils in Crotch Guard are formulated for rapid absorption into the surface of the skin, where they help form a barrier to infection, moisturise and promote healing.

Application is made clean and easy by the provision of a pump spray nozzle. A tight-fitting cap prevents accidental spillage. The product can be applied either to promote the healing of damaged skin or saddle sores, or as a preventative measure.

Although it is said to have a cooling action on damaged, inflamed skin, there is no sensation to report on healthy tissue. Indeed, once it has been applied, there is nothing much to say beyond observing that the chamois does seem to stay fresh for longer.

Is it a worthwhile alternative to chamois cream? On the evidence so far, the answer would have to be a positive; it is easier to apply, easy to carry, non-scented and does not promote the slightly over-moist sensation that can be associated with a cream. It is quickly absorbed, leaves no after sensation whatsoever and, presumably, washes out of clothing if it ever gets the chance to soak in. The bottle should give about three months' supply used twice daily.

Verdict

Effective preventative measure for trouble-free cycling

goodEasy to apply, anti-bacterial, non-greasy

badMight encourage the lazy to wash shorts less often

    Richard.

My faith in you and the site have been justified

This is a great bit of kit which has numerous uses.   However I do wonder how many of us actually use Uranium enriched shorts to cycle with, that need such protection.

I am also sure that it might have other uses.    Can you get it in strawberry flavour perhaps....

serious note - Who stocks it please - have you a webb site address ????

If anyone was going to appreciate the potential of a combined lube and anti-infection agent, VLAD, it was going to be you...

There's a  link to the supplier at the bottom of the page. Perhaps growing excitement stopped you reading that far?

    Yep.

    Guilty as charged.

have just received a bottle, it looks a bit amateur! arrived wrapped in newspaper inside a piece of cardboard held together by a roll of parcel tape. doesnt really give the right impression from a company selling me a product im meant to be putting on the family jewels. im trusting you on this one richard!
    Posted: 16/05/2008 22:22

Jonny BB let us know how it went.

Try not to speak in too high a pitch of voice though.

    Posted: 16/05/2008 23:52

Better a quality product in unimpressive packaging than vice-versa...
    Posted: 17/05/2008 11:46

fair point richard - but theyre not doing themselves any favours trying to break into a market with a product that comes like that. in all honesty though the bottle itself doesnt look too bad. right enough analysing the packaging!

vlad, will let you know what i think when ive used it a few times, although as im not a big user of chamois cream usually i dont know what i can really compare it to...

    Hi Jonny

I am Martin the guy that sold you the Crotch Guard.

Re the package. I am very proud to say that I have been doing mail order sales for oner 7 years and I have only ever used re cycled products for packaging.

It may look amatuerish, but it is very cost effect and very good for the enviroment to package goods in this way. It would save me a lot of time if I simply used new jiffy bags, but that would generate a lot more waste in the world.

You never said what you think of the product? I guess you have had a chance to try it out for a few weeks now. Impressed?

    Cheers

    Martin

    Sorry, that should read:

mail order sales for over 7 years , rather than - mail order sales for oner 7 years !

    Posted: 23/05/2008 14:07

that explains that! why dont you put a note in saying so? get a bit of green kudos.

to be honest martin i have exams going on at the moment and have only tried it out a few times, has been very good so far though! planning to ride from john o groats to lands end in the summer, which is the main reason i bought a bottle. thought i might need it. so it will definitely undergo extensive testing in a couple of months...

    Posted: 23/05/2008 16:13

good luck with the exams and the end to end.

You plan to north to south! I should check the weather forecast for prevailing winds!.

I often go up to Halkirk (near John o groats) in August for the Highland Games.

It is common to see end to end riders "over comming" the Helmsdale climb. Always looks tough to me!

    Posted: 23/05/2008 16:58

Martin, the goal of environment friendly packaging is of course audable and should be part of your marketing/website/pr etc. Get the kudos!

I buy and sell quite a bit of stuff on ebay and always reuse all of the packaging and also make it clear to people I do so for a reason and egg them on to do the same. Every bit helps...

    Posted: 23/05/2008 21:57

    Thanks Jorrin

why not buy some crotcg guard from me and I can send you some re used packing and then you can re use it again!

Like I said, I have always used re used packaging.

A tip for anyone who sells products on the internet, or mail order. There is really very little need to buy packaging materials, other that tape. (That is hard to reuse).

Collect small boxes and used jiffy bags for smaller items. for larger items, find a furniture shop and get there used boxes and bubble wrap. They always have yards of bubble wrap they need to get rid of.

    Posted: 26/05/2008 08:23

    Martin,

Why not use string then.   Thats reusable and we used to use it in the old days to wrap parcels.

    Posted: 26/05/2008 11:19

i cannot believe I used there in stead of their in my last post- sorry.

Good comment Vlad.  But I think that would be a little too much for me. besides not many people re cycle 8"  pieces of string.!!! If you could invent re usable parcel sticking tape, i would buy some.

    Posted: 26/05/2008 11:37

Thanks Martin but I have never felt the need to purchase these types of product (sofar anyway) even though I ride about 20,000m a year.
    Posted: 26/05/2008 12:23

20,000m jorrin? don't push yourself too much....

    Posted: 26/05/2008 19:31

I was going to say it's the speed and not the distance that matters,.. but then we all know Jorrin rides everywhere at Mach 4....

I'd be suprised if I did 8k a year, tbh...

    Posted: 26/05/2008 19:57

Thanks for your concern JBB, but I actually don't feel like I am pushing it at all-I live in a London suburb and can get to anywhere in London faster by bike than by car or public transport, and I enjoy it sooo much more. My mindset is 'bike', so although I may ride a lot it doesn't feel like it. The downside is that I need to service my bikes often, generally stripping and rebuilding my main ride once a year.
    Posted: 26/05/2008 20:31

i was actually pointing out that u put metres - im guessing u meant kilometres. i guess sarcasm doesnt stand out so well on screen!
    Posted: 27/05/2008 16:32

    I actually meant miles.
    Posted: 27/05/2008 16:57

hahaha ok. sorry i work in new money. nice mileage though. i reckon i make about 2000 miles a year, with the time i get!
    Posted: 27/05/2008 17:45

Ah-time...that most precious of commodities...hence my riding 'mach4' everywhere (cheers Tom) and using the bike for commuting every day. At least that way I get some training in.

    Posted: 27/05/2008 17:53

Hey I just got mine through the Post - Thanks.

Mine must be the upper end of the market as it arrived wrapped in corrigated cardboard and nice brown tape.

Will test it over the weekend for the first time and let you all know what I think.

    Posted: 30/05/2008 13:53

    and?

    Posted: 04/07/2008 19:21

    Well,

Its in a small bottle with a nice lable.   Has a little press top when pressed spays out the oil.   The oil is very oily and protects the Crotch.

Find it works very well indeed and does not soak in to the skin.

If you dont like cream the try this.
