Catlike Whisper Plus helmet

Unusual it may appear, but looks aside, Catlike’s top helmet performs well

Catlike’s Whisper helmet is noticeably striking in comparison to most other helmets, but underneath the distinctly ‘euro’ looks is a lightweight and well-ventilated helmet.

Keeping your head cool are a mind-boggling 39 vents. While most other manufacturers are striving for fewer but larger vents in the quest for the best ventilated helmets, Catlike have taken the opposite path and opted for smaller vents but, critically, lots of them. And it works. Comparing the Whisper alongside popular choices such as the Giro Ionos and Specialized 2D, it’s noticeably more ventilated.

It’s light too, at a claimed 280g for the medium tested. Catlike make the helmet using the popular 'in-mould' technology, and CES (Crash Energy Splitter) should ensure that in the event of a crash, the force of the impact is evenly distributed across the entire helmet.

The retention device, Catlike’s MPS-3D (Multi Positioning System), is straightforward to use and it didn’t take long to find a comfortable fit. There’s plenty of vertical adjustment which helps to achieve a satisfactory fit, and the two modules are easy to adjust on the road. There’s plenty of padding supplied should you need.

Verdict

It’s certainly an unusual looking helmet, but don’t let its looks put you off if you’re after a light and well ventilated helmet.

I think the looks are great - especially in euskadi orange. Horses for courses.

I think it goes well with the Cervelo Test Team black strip

I agree - one of the biggest reasons for me going out to buy a helmet would be looks and this wins.

Dai
Does anyone know which shops (real not online) are stocking this helmet I'd like to try one on before I buy as I have a big noggin. I live in North Wales but a shopping trip to Liverpool or Manchester or Birmingham would be easy enough, if anyone knows of a stockist that would be great - I tried looking on the catlike website but the distributor function wouldnt load up.

I recently purchased one from Wiggle in large. Couldnt find a local retailer so had to take a punt on line. Anyway the large fitted me fine and I take a large in a Giro and Specialized helmet if thats any help to you. My logic was if it didnt fit correctly I would just return it.

I think it looks great.  I have the white and the black helmets.  It has the best ventilation I've experienced from any other helmet - for the long hot summer rides, this is crucial.

I was about to buy one off Wiggle too Mr G.Q. also a large as going off the measurements my head was just too big for the medium. However, I received an email off the Catlike importer asking about dealers in the North East, turns out my closest dealer was a 75 mile round trip. I was a day off, had a tank full of petrol so decided to take a trip. Pleased I did as I went for the medium, the large was just that little too big, the medium felt spot on. The only downside is I couldn't come away with it as they only had the white in large in stock. Hoping it'll be landing on my door stop before this weeken.

Just for others,in case they're wondering about sizes, I have/had been using a Specialized S-Works 2D also in medium.
